We observe from notices in your Daily List

that letters for the Far East are now accepted by

the Russian Post Office for transmission via Siberia

and that this representa a gain of eight to twelve

days over the fastest sea-route as regards Shanghai.

We are in some doubt whether it is advisable

to adopt this route for official correspondence with

the Government of Hong Kong, and shall be much obliged

if you will inform us what saving of time is

anticipated in transit to Hong Kong, and whether the

Siberian route may be regarded as safe for official

communication,
